Rapes are only sex. What’s the problem?

The problem is that rape is not sex. It is about dominance and control and uses sex as a weapon of power and anger. To be raped is to be violated and stripped of control and self-determination.

Rape only happens to those who ask for it.

A woman’s behavior is irrelevant. The way she dresses is irrelevant. Just because someone thinks that she may be promiscuous does not make it so. Rape is rape. Rape is a crime.

Only strangers commit assaults.

> 70% of rape victims know their abuser
> 60% of all marriages experience abuse.
> 86% of rape victims were victimized by an intimate partner.
> Caregivers are responsible for 60% of child abuse.
> 80% of child abusers are the father, stepfather or another relative
> Abusers are not hiding in the bushes or parking garages. TWO-THIRDS of all rapes and 73% of all sexual abuses are committed by someone the victim knows.
> Domestic abuse occurs in 60% of marriages and is considered the world’s most under-reported crime.
> Children in the first week of their life die most often at the hands of their mother.
> Children in weeks 2-52 are most likely to be killed by their father, stepfather or mother’s companion.
> 50% of all women murdered are killed by spouse or acquaintance

   The problem is not OUT THERE. It is within!

Only the young are assaulted.

> 10% of all persons older than 65 have been abused.
> Only girls are assaulted
> Child abuse is reported every 10 seconds.
> One in 6 women and one in 33 men have been sexually assaulted.
> Boys and girls are about equally likely to be abused.
> Only the poor are assaulted
> Children of all ages, races, ethnicities and social status experience abuse.

Assaults are usually inter-racial.

> 80-90% of all violent crimes against women are intra-racial, of the same race.
> Assaults are a one-time occurrence
> Incestuous relationships average 7 years and 75% of the abuse is unknown by the mother.
